Solid Mechanics (080102)

Solid mechanics was established in 1950s and is known as one of the oldest majors in Hohai University. Under the guidance of academician XU Zhilun,solid mechanics insists on combining theory and practice and have achieved great success in many areas such as civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, transport engineering and energy engineering. There are 26 professors and many advanced centers for teaching, experiments and computation. Students graduate from this major are welcomed by industries and research institutes.
 Education aims:
The discipline aims at cultivating high-level personnel in mechanical theory and engineering applications. The students are expected with the following characters and abilities: the rigorous scientific attitude and style; the abilities in teaching, researching as well as management for engineering; the solid and broad mathematical and mechanical background and systematic engineering knowledge; the ability of reading academic research materials and writing academic papers and carrying out academic communications with foreign languages; the ability of establishing proper mechanical-mathematical models as well as applying advanced theoretical/experimental/computational methods for solving complex engineering problems.
Research directions:
Mechanical characteristics and behaviors of materials; Computational solid mechanics; Health detection for structures; Fracture and damage of engineering structures; Mechanical problems in multi-fields.
Education program:
Standard education program lasts for 2.5 years, it is no less than 2 years and no more than 3.5 years. The total minimum required credits is 34, including no less than 20 credits for degree courses, no less than 9 credits for non-degree courses and 5 credits for practice.

Engineering Mechanics (080104)

Civil engineering material is a sub-discipline develops on the basis of material science and civil engineering. The characteristics of this discipline are new materials for engineering, material endurance and new materials for structure repair. The research directions include concrete material, fiber and composite material, technique of material surface and geo-synthetics. The discipline have achieved great success in these above areas and won many national and provincial rewords. There are 20 teacher including a Double hired academician and 8 professors.
